Sosiolog profesor Shinji Miyadai lulusan Tokyo Metropolitan University telah membangkitkan kemarahan para penggemar AKB48.


Hal ini terjadi saat dirinya diwawancara pada kamis 26 Desember 2013 dengan judul "Karena AKB48 para WOTA tidak bisa Jatuh Cinta" yang diterbitkan di "Toyo Keizai online" memberikan pernyataan-pernyataan yang menyinggung sisi-sisi psikologis penggemar.

Salah satu pernyataannya adalah bahwa mereka para wota tidak akan pernah bisa mengenal arti dari Jatuh Cinta yang sesungguhnya


Bahwa mereka tidak lebih dari seorang penguntit (Pengejar Seksualitas perempuan) dikatakan juga bahwa para wota itu sebagian besar memiliki penyakit oedipus complex

Oedipus complex adalah Kecenderungan pria tertarik kepada wanita yang usianya jauh lebih tua/muda, tidak sama dengan Pedofil! sang profesor juga mengatakan bahwa penggemar memiliki kombinasi dari apa yang disebutkannya.

Protes besar-besaran dimulai dari kicauan di Twitter dan berlanjut lebih anarkis, kemudian dikabarkan juga bahwa sehari sebelum diwawancara sang profesor telah merilis buku tentang laki-laki yang kecendrungan pada hal yang tidak umum.

Sepertinya pernyataan itu diungkap sebagai bentuk promosi bukunya agar laku dipasaran dengan menjelek-jelekan kelompok/individu tertentu, hal yang lumrah dilakukan artis dan penulis di Indonesia! namun untuk negara maju seperti Jepang itu sungguh ironis karena masih saja ada orang-orang dengan pola pikir primitif.
